Think English

"Of course, English teachers only teach is, are, was and were." This is the belief owns by many academicians who think English is just a piece of cake without knowing that they are actually making a fool out of themselves. Seriously, I am now in that set of belief where many of my colleagues think less of me. They do not know that the moment they "take it easy" with English, they are actually putting their career at stake. It is evident from the atrocious errors made by those who own masters degree or even PhD in their written and spoken language. What is more worrying is that, these people are the ones who were supposed to teach students using English as the medium of instruction. Imagine having a professor teaching Business subject using bad English. (Period). And when the students speak bad English, they blame the English teachers for not doing their jobs well. Where is the fairness in this? It is definite that those graduates who fail to empower English actually come from the sole consequence of the "take-it-easy academicians". They, of all people, should know that English is best learned through maximizing the English usage and if they refused to use and learn English perfectly, how can they boost the learning environment to the students. Please, as academicians, you are not supposed to think that English teachers only teach is, are, was and were. We work in a learning institution, hence, we are bound to learn everyday. You think of your life experience learning English, did you only learn is, are, was and were? Stop humiliating yourself.

Just my two cents.

  2. I agree with you 100%. Language inculcation is not just what we learn in the language class (although a good training is vital) but seeing and hearing how it is applied is how you gain mastery of it.

    Well said, sir!
